Orange & Silver Wedding Decor by Blush Weddings

|Taryn & Michael’s Wedding Day | 16th March 2013|
| Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club|

It just goes to prove that our last blog about weather proofing your Wedding Day worked. The Friday before Taryn & Michael’s big day was wet, miserable and freezing. And of course, this lovely couple opted for their ceremony to be outside under the old oak tree. By lunch time on Saturday, the weather still wasn’t great. The sun was shining. Sort of.

While us Blush Babes were busy setting up in the St. Georges Room, the duty manager asked us when the decision needed to made about whether they should set up for the ceremony to be on the patio on indoors. How sad! Luckily the sun came out, the wind died down a little more and the wonderful ceremony was held outside.

On the Wednesday prior, Taryn brought all the goodies to Blush Weddings that needed to be setup up for their reception. And amongst it all were 40 stunning white golf umbrellas. Taryn, I’m telling you now, if you didn’t have those, it would have rained and poured!

The one manager Candice (who just happens to be my oldest friend in the world who I love dearly and totally bent over backwards) rang me up on the Friday before stating that the draping for that night will be left up for Taryn & Michael’s Wedding the next day. The only problem was, IT WAS BLACK (not white) eeek! The Groom, Michael, his mom and the Mother of the Bride, Glenda all saw the black draping and loved it. The bride, Taryn, wasn’t happy about it at all… But in the end, once the whole room was decorated, it looked absolutely amazing. I think that if the room was draped in white, the exquisite table décor wouldn’t have popped like it did.

Taryn & Michael had simple yet class taste. They came to Blush Weddings in July 2012 with their vision and wedding day dream. Their colour scheme was orange & silver. So we put together a table décor mock-up for them here at our boutique and love it. The final table décor mock-up was done at the venue as we always do. They were blown away! On the tables we used a 50cm round mirror with four round votives that were filled with water and a floating candle in each set around the mirror. In the centre was a large round glass vase with white stones in the bottom and filled with Tropical Amazon (orange) roses. Once the sun went down and the candles were lit, the room came alive with light, love and colour!

Their photographer also setup a photo booth in the foyer with goodies and props and super fun backdrop. Here you will find pictures of the “Blush Babes” having a little fun with their photo booth once all the guest sat down for the wedding breakfast (It was dinner but here is the definition of Wedding Breakfast:  It is called this because it is the first meal together as husband and wife – how sweet is that).

This was the first wedding setup for our new assistant, Leanne who went out of her way for us, the couple and the wedding as a whole. She’s only been working for us for a month now and she really worked very hard. Well done Leanne – you truly did an outstanding job. Thank you for all your hard work, dedication, putting in late hours where needed and enthusiasm – Well done!

Weather-proof your Wedding

It’s like rain on your wedding day…

Rain. It happens. There are three things that you cannot predict or prevent on your wedding day. Children, Pets (if you choose to have any) and THE WEATHER!

This blog is dedicated to perfectionists like yours truly, where the smallest thing will set you off…  Yes, it might rain on your wedding so “weather-proof” your beautiful day, don’t let Mother Nature bother you – because at the end of it all, it will be simply beautiful whatever the weather!

I recently heard of a new (new to me) yet um… unusual superstition, that if you put a broom in a tree on your wedding day, it won’t rain. Strange but true… (I guess if you’re superstitious.)

If you’re planning a wedding during South Africa’s rainy seasons, then ensure that you have the best service providers and suppliers by your side, but remember to have faith in all the different people that will assist in making your wedding day happen and happen beautifully.

Hair:
Brides, your hairdressers know what they’re doing. So whether there’s rain or shine, have faith! If it’s humid or raining, and your hair fizzes like mine with the slightest humidity or drop of rain, remember to tell your hair dresser this and kindly ask him/her for an extra spritz of hold spray and you’ll be A for away!

Photographs:
Don’t forget that your photographer has done this before and they know what to do. Leave it to them to find the best spots (in and) out of the rain. One good tip that you might want to share with them is to take a clear shower curtain along. This makes for great ground cover wherever you are. If they feel this might be too shiny or catch the light, then use a white/cream sheet instead.
Having worked on many a television shoot, all camera men/women and crew say that the best days to shoot are on overcast days! The pictures just come out sharper as there’s no glare, harsh sunshine & shadows also creating that dramatic effect. If your photographers are as good as they say they are, which I’m sure they are,  they’ll scout out stunning, quirky & fantastic locations for you prior to the time.

Venue:

If you’re opting for an outdoor ceremony, ensure that your venue has an indoor location  as a Plan . If Plan B doesn't work out there are 24 other letters in the alphabet. However, ensure that if there’s more than one wedding/event going on, on the same day or at the same time, that there is still another indoor location for you should it rain. Have this added to the venue’s terms and conditions (as we all know that every radio or TV ad these days has those four vital words at the end: Terms And Conditions Apply – VERY IMPORTANT!)  Also ensure that the wedding venue has an indoor or at least a covered area for your guests to enjoy their welcome drinks while you and your new hubby are off having photo’s taken.

Props & Other Goodies that your Bridesmaids & Groomsmen Should Have Close By:
Towels - Let’s face it brides, the groomsmen don’t do a heck of a lot, so let them carry some hand towels, it doesn’t matter what
colour
the towels are, because let’s face it, they’re just not going to go with the beautiful bridesmaids dresses you picked out. So get the venue or hotel go give you some spare towels from their laundry.
Wellies & Brollies – Wellington boots are all the rage nowadays. So get yourself some fun and quirky, bright, funky and colourful wellies for your ladies in waiting. To go with these boots, have some funky umbrellas too. These make for great photo props, regardless of the weather, they’re sure to brighten up a grey day!
Extras:
If it’s cold rain and not just your typical Highveld afternoon thunderstorm,  have some pretty pashminas on hand for you and bridesmaids. Don’t forget about the little kiddies too!

Lastly:
Weather is the only aspect of your wedding day that you have ABSOLUTLEY NO control over, so just be prepared and have fun! Besides, isn’t rain on your wedding day supposed to be good luck…?Remember to have fun! Now that you've read the above and have weather-proofed your Big Day, sit back and just enjoy every moment. Breathe. Realx &and take it all in. All that preperation for months on end, the day goes by so quickly, you don't want it to be a blur! Soak it all up & just have fun!
