It’s like
rain on your wedding day…
Rain. It
happens. There are three things that you cannot predict or prevent on your wedding day. Children, Pets (if you choose to have any) and THE WEATHER!
This blog is dedicated to perfectionists like yours truly, where the smallest thing will set you off… Yes, it might rain on your wedding so “weather-proof” your beautiful day, don’t let Mother Nature bother you – because at the end of it all, it will be simply beautiful whatever the weather!

I recently
heard of a new (new to me) yet um… unusual superstition, that if you put a broom
in a tree on your wedding day, it won’t rain. Strange but true… (I guess if
you’re superstitious.)
If you’re
planning a wedding during South Africa’s rainy seasons, then ensure that you
have the best service providers and suppliers by your side, but remember to
have faith in all the different people that will assist in making your wedding
day happen and happen beautifully.
Hair:
Brides, your hairdressers know what they’re doing. So whether there’s rain or shine, have faith! If it’s humid or raining, and your hair fizzes like mine with the slightest humidity or drop of rain, remember to tell your hair dresser this and kindly ask him/her for an extra spritz of hold spray and you’ll be A for away!

Photographs:
Don’t forget that your photographer has done this before and they know what to do. Leave it to them to find the best spots (in and) out of the rain. One good tip that you might want to share with them is to take a clear shower curtain along. This makes for great ground cover wherever you are. If they feel this might be too shiny or catch the light, then use a white/cream sheet instead.
Having worked on many a television shoot, all camera men/women and crew say that the best days to shoot are on overcast days! The pictures just come out sharper as there’s no glare, harsh sunshine & shadows also creating that dramatic effect. If your photographers are as good as they say they are, which I’m sure they are, they’ll scout out stunning, quirky & fantastic locations for you prior to the time.

Venue:
If you’re opting for an outdoor ceremony,
ensure that your venue has an indoor location as a Plan . If Plan B doesn't work out there are 24 other letters in the alphabet. However, ensure that if there’s
more than one wedding/event going on, on the same day or at the same time, that
there is still another indoor location for you should it rain. Have this added
to the venue’s terms and conditions (as we all know that every radio or TV ad
these days has those four vital words at the end: Terms And Conditions Apply –
VERY IMPORTANT!) Also ensure that the
wedding venue has an indoor or at least a covered area for your guests to enjoy
their welcome drinks while you and your new hubby are off having photo’s taken.
Props & Other Goodies that your Bridesmaids
& Groomsmen Should Have Close By:
Towels - Let’s face it brides, the groomsmen don’t do a heck of a lot, so let them carry some hand towels, it doesn’t matter what colour the towels are, because let’s face it, they’re just not going to go with the beautiful bridesmaids dresses you picked out. So get the venue or hotel go give you some spare towels from their laundry.
Wellies & Brollies – Wellington boots are all the rage nowadays. So get yourself some fun and quirky, bright, funky and colourful wellies for your ladies in waiting. To go with these boots, have some funky umbrellas too. These make for great photo props, regardless of the weather, they’re sure to brighten up a grey day!
